3D Imaging and Rapid Prototyping

Reduction and Enlargment

Art Casting of Illinois, Inc. has state-of-the-art facilities for artists who wish to reduce or enlarge a model. We use the latest technologies in laser scanning and rapid prototyping to re-size your piece in a variety of materials depending on the desired density and available budget.

Digital Archiving

Art Casting of Illinois, Inc. offers digital archiving using our laser scanner. The laser scanner can be used to capture any object as a digital file which can be used to create a model of any size using an array of rapid prototyping technologies. A mold can then be pulled from the prototype so as not to destroy the original. This is a wonderful way to preserve delicate originals.

Please visit our Michelangelo Project page to learn more about how this process is being used!

Rapid Prototyping Services

The Rapid Prototyping capabilities offered through Art Casting of Illinois, Inc. are:

PolyJet - Photopolymer Jetting

The PolyJet Matrix is the first technology that enables simultaneous jetting of different types of model materials. In a single build process it prints parts and assemblies made of several materials with different mechanical and physical properties. Printing with two model materials simultaneously and creates 21 types of digital materials on demand during the build process.

Machine - Objet Connex500
Build Size - 19.3 x 15.4 x 7.9 in.
Layer Thickness - 0.0006 in. & 0.001 in.

SLS - Selective Laser Sintering

The SLS use a laser to melt powder in layers to create durable plastic and rubber-like parts and has the capability of making metal parts. The SLS process provides the most functional rapid prototypes available.

Machine - 3D Systems Sinterstation HiQTM
Build Size - 12 x 14 x 17 in.
Layer Thickness - 0.003 in.

SLA - Stereolithography

The SLA machine uses photo reactive liquid hat is cured with a laser to create the prototype from a computer model.

Machine - 3D Systems VIPER si2TM
Build Size - 10 x 10 x10 in.
Layer Thickness - 0.001 in. & 0.004 in.

3DP - Three Dimensional Printing

The Z-Printer creates prototypes by solidifying layers of deposited powder using a liquid binder with full color capabilities.

Machine - Z Corp Spectrum Z510TM
Build Size - 10 x14 x 8 in.
Layer Thickness - 0.0035 - 0.008 in.

FDM - Fused Deposition Modeling

The FDM machine builds the prototype part by extruding a semi-molten filament through a heated nozzle in a prescribed pattern onto a platform.

Machine - Dimension SST1200es
Build Size - 12 x12 x 14 in.
Layer Thickness - 0.010 in. & 0.013 in.

ProMetal

The ProMetal machine creates prototypes by solidifying layers of deposited metal powder using a liquid binder and thermally treating the finished part.

Machine - ProMetaI R 1 -
